About IDE

The Bachelor's Program in Interdisciplinary Engineering (IDE) aims to cultivate individuals who will contribute to the development of appropriate technologies for next-generation society by leveraging the interdisciplinary knowledge acquired in this program.

In order to address the diverse contemporary challenges that confront 21st-century society, including energy, environment, water, and more, modern science and technology are expected to assume more practical and effective roles beyond their purely academic functions. In other words, engineers and researchers must possess the ability to adapt flexibly to the evolving social demands, as this has become increasingly essential.

As a university of the 21st century, the University of Tsukuba endeavors to participate in the creation of a sustainable and smart society for future generations. In pursuit of this objective, we have introduced the Bachelor's program in Interdisciplinary Engineering.

The specific aim of this program is to provide students with a comprehensive and advanced education and training in research, encompassing foundational knowledge in the natural sciences, as well as their practical applications in science and technology. By following this approach, our graduates will be equipped with the necessary skills to contribute effectively to addressing the aforementioned social challenges. The Bachelor's program in Interdisciplinary Engineering has been meticulously designed within the framework of traditional engineering, incorporating elements of ICT and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The Bachelor’s Program in Interdisciplinary Engineering (IDE) offers a few slots of government scholarships (MEXT) to eligible students. This scholarship will cover the cost of admission and tuition fees, in addition to providing a monthly allowance of 117,000 Japanese yen, and round-trip air tickets. Selection of MEXT scholarship recipients will be based on the performance of the top successful applicants in the two-stage screening process of the program's entrance examination. It is important to note that there is no requirement for a separate application prior to the entrance examination.
